About Anaheim
Anaheim’s history predates its fame as the home of Disneyland. Founded in 1857 by 50 German families, its name is a portmanteau of “Ana” (after the nearby Santa Ana River) and “heim” (German for home). It was originally a major wine-producing center, with over 50 wineries by 1870. The wine industry collapsed due to a blight, leading the city to pivot to citrus fruits and walnuts before evolving into the major tourism and industrial hub it is today.
To get to the airport From central Anaheim, take the I-5 South toward Santa Ana/San Diego. Exit onto the CA-55 South and continue until you merge onto the I-405 South. Take the CA-55 S exit toward Newport Beach/Costa Mesa. Follow the signs for John Wayne Airport (SNA). The drive is approximately 25-35 minutes, depending on traffic.
